Building collapse in Gurugram left one dead, bureaucrat and his wife stuck in robbles for hours

New Delhi, February 10

A bureaucrat and his wife were trapped underneath rubble after a chunk of the sixth floor collapsed down to the first floor at a residential building in Gurugram. One resident was reported dead. 

The incident took place at an eighteen storied building Chintels Paradiso society in Sector 109. There are over 400 4BHK apartments in the building. 

The residents who witnessed the collapse felt that there was a huge explosion in the building leaving everyone panicked and rushed downstairs to save their lives. 

The police said that the residents claimed the sixth floor’s structure was weak and it was undergoing repairs. The entire drawing room area caved in with a large portion of it crashing down till the first floor. 

Arun Srivastava, a bureaucrat posted with the Indian Railway Service of Engineers and his wife live in the same building. The couple was stuck for several hours till they were rescued by fire and emergency services. 

Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar also took note of the collapse and tweeted: “Administrative officials, along with SDRF and NDRF teams are busy in the rescue & relief work after the unfortunate collapse of the apartment roof at the Paradiso Housing Complex in Gurugram. I am personally monitoring the situation and I pray for everyone’s safety.”

The police stated that town planning department has ordered an inquiry into the incident. The police are now questioning the builder over the renovation work who will be booked after the preliminary investigation. 

The builder meanwhile issued a statement on the incident stating, "This is an extremely unfortunate incident and we have taken it very seriously as the safety of our residents is our utmost concern. We are fully cooperating with authorities and ensuring all support. We extend our heartfelt condolence to the affected families.”
