Canadian Police suspends one of their officials in Brampton Hindu temple violence case

New Delhi, November 5

The Canadian Police have suspended a regional police officer from Peel, Ontario after his alleged involvement in a violent protest outside the Hindu Sabha Mandir temple in Brampton.

The suspension comes after a video surfaced on social media showing the officer participating in the demonstration, which escalated into violence as Indian consular officials were visiting the temple.

In a statement to CBC news, Media Relations Officer Richard Chin said, “The force is aware of a video circulating on social media which shows an off-duty Peel Police officer involved in a demonstration, and that the officer was suspended in accordance with the Community Safety and Policing Act.”

In a press statement, the police said, “Although these demonstrations occurred at three different locations, they appear to be related to one another. Several incidents between protestors and worshippers broke out.”

The purported video shared on social media showed groups of demonstrators, including supporters of Khalistan, clashing on the grounds of the Hindu Sabha Mandir temple. In some clips, people appear to be engaged in fistfights and using poles in the confrontation.

PM Narendra Modi in a post on X said, “I strongly condemn the deliberate attack on a Hindu temple in Canada. Equally appalling are the cowardly attempts to intimidate our diplomats. Such acts of violence will never weaken India’s resolve. We expect the Canadian government to ensure justice and uphold the rule of law,” the PM Modi said in a post on X.
