CBI arrests officials of NCL and deputy SP CBI in bribery case of MP

NCL officials alongwith private proprietors were found facilitating and delivering bribes to officials of Northern Coalfields Limited where a private person also delivered bribe to DySP CBI for favourable investigation : CBI

New Delhi, August 20

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested officials from Northern Coalfields Limited (NCL) and a deputy SP of CBI in a bribery case. 

The first arrested was identified as Subedar Ojha, Manager (Secretariat) & PS to CMD in NCL. The agency first raided his residence and seized Rs. 3.85 crore in cash. This amount was allegedly amassed from several contractors and officials in lieu of favours for their operations in NCL, Singrauli, officials informed. 

The CBI has also arrested Ravi Shankar Singh, a middleman and proprietor of M/s Sangam Engineering, Singrauli, Madhya Pradesh, who was allegedly acting as a conduit between various contractors / businessmen and several officials of Northern Coalfields Limited and was facilitating and delivering bribes to these officials of Northern Coalfields Limited.

In addition to that the agency then went on to arrest his associate Diwesh Singh red handed while delivering Rs 5 lakh bribe to Joy Joseph Damle, Dy SP, ACB, CBI, Jabalpur in lieu of obtaining favourable report in the matters of complaints/investigation pending against them in CBI. 

Ravi Shankar Singh and his associate were acting as a middleman between the NCL (Northern Coalfields Ltd) officers and J J Damle, who has also been arrested, CBI added. 

The officials further stated that on the instructions of  Ravi Shankar Singh, Ajay Verma employee of Ravi Singh had collected the aforesaid undue advantage of Rs 5 Lakh from Lt. Colonel Basant Kumar Singh (Retd), Chief Manager (Administration), NCL, Singrauli. The bribe amount was allegedly sent by Mr. Subedar Ojha and Ravi Shankar Singh instructed Diwesh Singh to deliver this amount to Dy SP JJ Damle of ACB Jabalpur, CBI.

Earlier, a regular case u/s 7, 7A, 8 of PC Act (As amended in 2018) read with Section 61(2) of Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita was registered against Ravi Shankar Singh, Director of M/s Sangam Engineering, Singrauli (M.P.), Lt Colonel Basant Kumar Singh(Retd), Manager (Admin), NCL, Singrauli, Subedar Ojha, Manager(Secretariat),NCL, Singrauli, Diwesh Singh, private person (associate of Ravi Shankar Singh); Joy Joseph Damle, Dy.SP, CBI, ACB, Jabalpur, other officials and unknown others.

The agency also conducted at several places in Singrauli, Jabalpur and Noida. During searches, huge amount of cash, digital devices and several incriminating documents have been recovered.
