Coimbatore DIG Vijaya Kumar dies by suicide

New Delhi, July 7
The Coimbatore Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Vijayakumar shot himself dead.
The police stared that he is suspected to have shot himself with his service pistol at his residence at Red Fields in the city.
The 2009 batch IPS official had assumed charge as DIG in January this year. He had served as Deputy Commissioner of Police, Anna Nagar, Chennai earlier.
Previously, he had served as Superintendent of Police in Kancheepuram, Cuddalore, Nagapattinam and Tiruvarur districts.
The senior officers rushed to the spot after hearing about the incident. The Tamil Nadu Police condoled his death.
They have stares that he was under severe depression and from last few days unable to sleep well. He was given medicines as well counselling. His wife and daughter had also moved to Coimbatore to stay with him.
The officials said that after he returned from.his morning walk, he took out a pistol and shot at his head. His body was sent to Coimbatore Medical College for autopsy.
Taking to Twitter, Chief Minister Stalin said he was shocked and saddened to hear the sad news of the untimely death of C Vijayakumar today. "Vijayakumar had served Tamil Nadu police force well in various responsibilities including district SP during his tenure."
"His death is a huge loss to the Tamil Nadu Police department. My deepest condolences and sympathies to his family, friends and police force," the Chief Minister tweeted
