Congress councillor's husband hacked to death in Tamil Nadu

Victim Jackson was engaged in the goods transport business; his wife, Usha Rani, serves as the Councillor for the 10th Ward in Thiruvattaru

New Delhi, July 29

The husband of a Congress Councillor was hacked to death allegedly by a group of unknown men outside his house in Kanniyakumari district in Tamil Nadu. 

The victim was identified as Jackson a resident of Thiruvattaru and engaged in the goods transport business. His wife, Usha Rani, serves as the Councillor for the 10th Ward in Thiruvattaru.

The police suspect enemity behind the incident and name of one suspect has come to the fore who was identified as Rajkumar from Vellankodu.

The police stated that Jackson was attacked by some unidentified bike-borne men while he was walking near his home. The gang surrounded him and attacked him with sickles and sticks and later fled the scene. 

He was rushed to a nearby hospital and later taken to Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala, where he succumbed to his injuries.

In a similar incident, four-member gang in Sivaganga killed a BJP functionary last week. The incident took place when 52-year-old Selva Kumar was travelling to his home in M Vilankulam on his motorcycle.

A five-member gang in Puducherry had killed an AIADMK functionary Padmanaban before that. 

Recently, Tamil Nadu unit President of Bahujan Samaj Party K Armstrong was also hacked to death in Chennai by a gang, leading to widespread outrage in the state.
