Covid positive woman of Bihar who was allegedly gang-raped, dies

New Delhi, May 20

A 45-year-old Covid positive woman who was allegedly gangraped at a private hospital where she was receiving treatment succumbed. While the hospital claimed the woman died of Covid the family cried foul and alleged she died after the gangrape.

National Commission for Women (NCW) sought time bound probe in the matter and wrote to Bihar DGP. 

Chairperson Rekha Sharma has written to Chief Secretary, Bihar to look into the matter and to give appropriate directions to the District Police officials and the hospital. The 

The victim was admitted at Paras HMRI Hospital in Bihar on May 15 where she was receiving treatment for Covid 19.

The daughter of the victim had recorded statements of her mother where the victim narrated her ordeal that she was allegedly raped by five men inside the hospital. The victim's daughter had also reportedly posted the video on Facebook. The video created a stir on social media that brought attention of several authorities in Bihar and national capital, Delhi. 

After the video went viral, Shastrinagar police of Patna reached the spot and initiated an inquiry. The police stated that they are inquiring into the allegations of rape. 

The hospital however refuted the charges and issued statement saying that the victim dies due to Covid 19 and stated that they are cooperating in police investigations.
