Delhi Crime Branch arrests four who committd armed robbery at retd DU Prof's house in Ashok Vihar

The accused held the retd professor, his wife hostage to rob valuables from their house

New Delhi, March 24

The Interstate Cell of the Delhi Police Crime Branch arrested two persons in connection with the armed robbery at Ashok Vihar area of Delhi. 

The accused was identified as Suraj and Sachin, along with their two associates allegedly hatched a plan to rob a couple with the help of the latter’s domestic help.

The police informed that the four accused allegedly booked a cab from Pari Chowk to Ashok Vihar, and then an autorickshaw to the couple’s residence. They held the couple hostage at gunpoint, and assaulted and robbed them of cash, gold and silver jewellery, and cellphones among other valuables worth lakhs. They escaped in the retired professor’s car, which was later found abandoned near Wazirabad JJ Colony.

The police alongwith the crime branch began to probe the case with CCTV cameras analysis and other technical aide. The cab driver was traced to Greater Noida, who said he had dropped the accused near Pari Chowk. The crime branch team zeroed in on the Gautam Buddh Nagar area and raided all possible hideouts of the suspects. Finally, Suraj was identified and apprehended near Ghaziabad’s Crossing Republik Mall. Based on Suraj’s inputs, Sachin was apprehended.

Suraj and Sachin, who have a history of serious criminal offences including robbery, dacoity, attempted murder, and violations of the Excise and Arms Acts admitted to the crime during questioning.
