New Delhi, March 12
The Delhi Police Economic Offences Wing (EOW) arrested a bank official for facilitating personal loans from HDFC Bank on fake certificates and documents.
The EOW identified the accused as Sanjeet Kumar, an official of HDFC Bank and a resident of Gurgaon.
DCP EOW Mohd Ali stated that the accused, an employee of HDFC used to get personal loans and credit cards passed on forged documents, forged credentials of employment leading to fraudulent disbursement of loans.
The EOW stated that the complaint was filed by Amit Sahni, Risk Intelligence & Control, HDFC Bank, Limited. It was alleged that during the routine business inquiry, Risk Intelligence & Control Unit of HDFC Bank has identified 145 personal loans and 78 Credit Cards with disbursement amount of Rs. 10 Crore, which were disbursed and issued to the various individual ‘customers’ of Delhi.
The complaint further stated that initially these ‘customers’ opened Saving Accounts and thereafter had applied for the fraudulent disbursement of personal loan and Credit Cards which were introduced/sourced by the sales executives (BDR) on the basis of forged employment credentials and other forged documents and the said personal loans and credit cards were granted and issued by the bank on the basis of the said employment documents submitted by the customers.
The EOW added that during the preliminary assessment in these matters, the bank found that multiple identities introduced themselves as staff (UDC/LCD & teachers) working with” Delhi Nagar Nigam-MCD Schools and offices”.
Majority of these 145 cases have been sourced by four bank executives namely, Ram Ashish, Manoj Dubey, Vinod Kumar and Pinaki Prasad and their role is suspected in the present matter, the officials added.
Elaborating on their modus operandi, the EOW officials said that the accused working in different branches of HDFC Bank colluded with each other and prepared fake Salary slips/Bank Statements and placed the same in the personal loan files and also placed fake verification reports of employment credentials in order to compromise the due process in order to earn money. Since, accused persons were working in the same bank, they were well aware about the loopholes and they exploited the same for their own pecuniary interest.
The EOW stated that during the course of investigation, documents were seized and notices were sent to the Principals of the respective schools as well as to the office of Executive Engineer, Shahdara for verification of these salary slips and employment credentials. Notices were also sent to various other organizations for verification of salary slips and employment credentials of personal loan takers and their replies were received and all concerned had replied that neither these persons were employed with them nor had these salary slips been issued by them.
The EOW had also sent notices to SBI, Axis Bank, ICICI Bank, Indusland Bank and other banks for the purpose of verification of Bank account statements placed in the personal loan files. The banks had also replied that most of the accounts did not exist in the respective banks.
The EOW stated that during the verification, it had been found that salary slips issued from the office of Executive Engineer, Shahdara, EDMC schools and other organizations and Bank Statements of SBI, Axis, ICICI, Indusland Bank which were filed by the applicants to procure loans were fake/forged documents. The account opening staff and staff conducting CPVs (Customer Point Verification) had also been examined and their statements were recorded. The staff conducting CPVs denied conducting these CPVs and stated that these were false documents.
The EOW had earlier arrested Ram Ashish, Vinod Prasad and Tabrez Kamal who are now in judicial custody.
The officials added that Sanjeet Kumar worked for the HDFC Bank from 2015 to 2017 in different capacities and at the time of present offence, he was working as Assistant Bank Manager in Splendor Trade Tower Branch of HDFC Bank, Gurgaon.
