Delhi Police IFSO busts 'Geek Squad' that cheated US citizens

New Delhi, June 26

The Delhi Police Intelligence Fusion and Strategic Operations (IFSO) unit busted a gang of cheats ‘Geek Squad’, who duped United States citizens of 625,000 dollars.

The accused have been identified as Kunal Singh (31) from Delhi, Subrata Das from Orissa, Suman from Kolkata and two others from Delhi Gautam and Amit.

Kunal Singh and Subrat Das started the ‘Geek Squad’ and roped in others to run this well oiled mechanism of duping US citizens.

The matter came to light after two US citizens approached the US embassy in India and lodged a complaint against a gang who were extorting money from senior citizens in the US. Jose Antonio Cordero and Laniwati Tanudjaja of the US made a complaint with IFSO through the US Embassy in India,

As per their complaint, they received a call from a person introducing himself as John from Geek Squad and he told them that their laptop had been hacked and all their information, including financial data, had been revealed to the hackers. He claimed that their lifetime savings might be stolen by hackers if funds are not saved immediately by transferring to some safe accounts.

The fraudster John connected the victims to his colleague Austin, introducing him as a technical expert and both of them convinced the victims to transfer their savings to different overseas accounts to protect it from hackers.

The accused posed as tech support staff but later told the customers that all their data had been hacked and accused stole all the money from their bank accounts. The accused also ran fake Google ads by showing false toll-free-numbers on Google search engine.

They used to instill fear of losing all their money from accounts and took all details to usurpe the same, officials said.
