Delhi Police organises mega drug destruction drive in presence of Delhi LG

The total weight of the drugs destroyed till date from last destruction is 10,601.1 kilograms, with an estimated international market value of Rs. 1682 crores

New Delhi, December 18

The Delhi Police made significant seizure of drugs in 2024 with registration of 1,714 cases under the NDPS Act . A mga drug destruction drive was held near Jahangirpuri metro station. Delhi LG VK Saxena was present at the event as the Chief Guest. 

The Anti Narcotics Task Force arrested 2169 drug traffickers. Financial investigations have led to the seizure of assets worth approximately Rs. 3.13 crore, with an additional Rs. 3 crore of assets in the final stages of forfeiture. Moreover, action under PITNDPS has been initiated against 07 drug traffickers, with proceedings ongoing against 37 others.
 

In compliance with the Supreme Court’s orders, committees were formed by the Delhi Police to oversee the destruction of drugs seized from traffickers. These committees compiled a list of confiscated drugs from cases between 1969 and 2024 that had received disposal orders from the Courts.

A pilot project, running from 1st December to 31st December 2024, aims to destroy approximately 6,370.7 kilograms of narcotics related to Crime Branch. This includes Cannabis (3,498.8 kg), Hashish (188 kg), Heroin (219 kg), Cocaine (1.3 kg), LSD (13 grams), MDMA (92 grams), Poppy straw (1,635 kg), Doda post (418 kg), Ketamine (1 kg), 13,975 narcotic injections, and 152 kilograms of other psychotropic substances. The international market value of these drugs is estimated at Rs. 1182 crores. 

Beside this, total 1569.5 Kgs of illegal drugs from New Delhi District and total 104.5 kgs of illegal Drugs from North West District was also destroyed.  Additionally, approximately 2556 kgs of illegal drugs from districts such as West, South-East, and Central have also been destroyed since 20th February, 2024.

In previous initiatives under the "Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan," Delhi Police destroyed approximately 2,888 kilograms of illegal drugs in December 2022, 15,700 kilograms on 26th June 2023, and 10,631 kilograms on 20th February 2024, with a combined market value of around ₹4300 crore.

At the 9th state-level NCORD meeting held on 26th November 2024, a three-year target was set to make Delhi drug-free. Following these directives, Delhi Police, in collaboration with other departments, launched a comprehensive one-month campaign starting 1st December 2024. 

The campaign includes raids on 200 hostels, 200 schools, 50 colleges, 200 shops, and 200 hotels/pubs/bars/restaurants etc. Random checks of auto and taxi drivers, participation of hostel wardens and school/college administrators in awareness programs. 

Delhi LG has also announced cash rewards for general public for providing information on drug trafficking with the assurance of keeping the name secret and emphasized mass awareness through print, social media, radio, and public transport platforms. It is also emphasized that this fight against drugs abuse is not against users, but against the drug traffickers. Hon’ble also complemented Delhi Police remarkable achievement of conducting 04 mega drugs destruction events within a span of 02 years. Delhi Police is rigorously implanting the Govt. Of India’s Commitment of Nasha Mukt Bharat.
