Delhi Police Praised For Good Work

The investigation of his teal succeeded in securing a conviction in form of life term to the killer of Radhika Tanwar, a Delhi University student, who was shot dead on International Women Day in 2011 in at Dhaula Kuan in south Delhi.

A session court sentenced Vijay Saini to life for the murder of Radhika Tanwar. The learned judge appreciated the investigation of the police team of south Delhi police in securing the arrest of the accused without much delay and in collecting concrete pieces of evidence, in the absence of which it would have been difficult to prove the charges of murder and provide justice to the victim. It was a pretty blind case as the accused, who was later caught from Mumbai, was just a casual factory worker who lived near her house a couple of years prior to the incident. In fact, this was one of the cases where many were apprehensive of conviction as there wasn’t much evidence as a country weapon was used for crime.

This is yet another heinous case, after Jigisha Ghosh murder case and Dhaula Kuan gangrape-2 case, in which team of then DCP south Delhi HGS Dhaliwal succeeded to prove its case in the court of law. There was no eye-witness came forward despite that Radhika Tanwar was shot in broad daylight in front of many people on a foot over-bridge. Police officers are saying that helping a victim to get justice on the court is not the priority of those people who are social media vigilantes and keyboard warriors. It was not an easy case to prove, but the meticulous investigation did it. Though we normally see a negative reporting about police role in media and mostly highly dissatisfied family members of the victims due to a variety of policing reasons, It was extremely satisfying that the parents of the victim also appreciated the police and its investigation of this case.

After the judgment, parents of Radhika Tanwar met with the then Deputy Commissioner of south Delhi HGS Dhaliwal is now posted as the Joint Director General, BCAS (Bureau of Civil Aviation Security). They thanked him for the extraordinary police efforts to take the case to the logical conclusion and get justice for their deceased daughter. He said, “we kept on following up the case relentlessly as it took six long years for the judgment till this day when court not only upheld the investigation but also appreciated the role of police for a good investigation.”
