Delhi Police Rohini District held AIIMS staffer who demanded Rs. five lakhs for hospital admission to a Covid+ patient.
The accused were identified as Pankaj Kumar and his sister Ram Kavalpreet Kaur alias Mamta .
The Covid helpline had received a complaint from one Haripal that one Bhushan Kumar and Sunil Kumar have taken Rs. 2.8 lakhs for admission of his COVID positive wife to Safdarjung Hospital.
During investigation the accused disclosed that complainant’s brother-in-law Ravinder Pal Singh is a known person of Bhushan. Ravinder Pal Singh contacted Bhushan for oxygen cylinder for his sister as he knew that Bhushan is running a manufacturing unit and welding work is done there.
The police stated that Bhushan arranged an empty oxygen cylinder for help on humanitarian ground. After that on April 30, Ravinder Pal Singh again contacted Bhushan for getting her sister admitted in some hospital as she was in critical condition.
However, Bhushan contacted Pankaj Kumar working at AIIMS hospital in Haematology lab who is known to him for admission of the sister of Ravinder Pal Singh. Thereafter Pankaj told that admission to any hospital in this pandemic is difficult but by spending some money admission to any hospital can be managed. After some time, Pankaj told Bhushan that Rs. five lakhs are needed for the admission of the patient in any hospital and sent a mobile number of Mamta and told that she will manage the admission of the patient.
Thereafter, Bhushan shared the mobile number of Mamta with patient’s son who contacted Mamta and her mother got admitted in Safdarjung Hospital. Pankaj and Mata demanded Rs five lakhs for getting the patient admitted in Safdarjung Hospital.
The complainant’s son delivered Rs 2.8 lakhs to Pankaj and Mamta. Thereafter details of Pankaj Kumar and Mamta were taken from AIIMS Hospital. After taking money, both the accused fled away to Mandi Himachal Pradesh.
The police sought CDR of both that showed their location in Mandi District Himachal Pradesh. The police team raided Rewara village in Mandi district.
The police are further investigating the case.
