DELHI POLICE SPECIAL CELL BUST AN INTERSTATE ARMS SUPPLIER IN DELHI


New Delhi, March 12

The Delhi Police Special Cell arrested an interstate arms supply who allegedly pumped in illegal arms in Delhi.

The accused was identified as Sanjay Kumar (30 ) of Bishanpuri in Aligarh UP.

The special cell stated that the accused was arrested near Indraprastha Park at Outer Ring Road Delhi when he was trying to enter the city.

The police seized ten firearms including  seven semi-automatic pistols of .32 and 3 single shot pistols of .315 with 50 live cartridges.

The Special Cell teams that has been working to bust the illegal arms supply from neighbouring states in Delhi had received specific input that an Aligarh based man has been found running a syndicate of illegal arms in the city. 

The police increased their vigilance and  develop the information about this syndicate. The policee received information about his arrival on March 9 to deliver the supply of firearms and ammunition to one of his contacts. Accordingly, a trap was laid near the said place. 

The police team found one  suspicious person carrying a bag on his shoulder. Upon his checking he was identified as Sanjay Kumar who had the seized illegal arms in his possession.  

The Special Cell has booked a case under section 25 (sub section 8) of Arms (Amendment) Act 2019 has been registered in PS Special Cell for arms trafficking. Under this amended section, (used for arms trafficking), there is a provision of minimum punishment of 10 years and it can be extended up to life imprisonment and with fine also.

Speaking about the accused, the officials stated that Sanjay Kumar has disclosed that he had received the supply of recovered firearms and cartridges from an arms manufacturer of Burhanpur, MP.  He also disclosed that he has been indulging in the supply of firearms in Delhi NCR and adjoining States for the last 4 years. Further interrogation of Sanjay has revealed that he used to purchase a semi automatic pistol from MP and would further sell it to gangsters/criminals and small arms traffickers in Delhi NCR. 

He claimed with police that he was lured by one Sagar Gautam of his village to join his arms trafficking syndicate about four years ago. Initially Sanjay Kumar worked as his courier. Subsequently he started working in partnership with Sagar Gautam who was arrested by Special Cell in November 2020 in a case of arms trafficking in Delhi. He is presently serving his term in jail. After the arrest of Sagar Gautam, Sanjay took over reins of this syndicate.

The officials added that Sanjay Kumar is a notorious arms trafficker previously found arrested in a case of Arms Act in UP in the year 2019. He is also previously involved in a case of murder at Aligarh in UP in the same year. 

The special cell has now channelised their efforts to identify and apprehend forward and backward linkage of this syndicate.
