New Delhi, April 7
Following the recent loot cases witnessed one after another, the Ghaziabad police arrested nine persons involved in three separate cases of robbery in the district.
The arrested include six persons involved in the Punjab National Bank robbery that took place in Nandgram last week.
The police also arrested Sundar Singh, the main accused in the Rs 22 lakh robbery at a petrol pump in Masuri last month has also been arrested after a brief encounter. He was carrying a bounty of Rs. 50,000 on his name.
Two other accused have been arrested for allegedly robbing a passerby at Pratap Vihar on April 5
According to police, in the Nandgram case, the accused decided to rob the bank after one of the accused's relative had an account in PNB and often mentioned about its "poor security" at the premises. As per their plan, they divided roles as some decided to go inside the bank while others stayed outside to keep watch. The accused fled with nearly Rs 11 lakh out of which almost Rs 8 lakh has been recovered.
The Uttar Pradesh government had suspended Ghaziabad SSP Pawan Kumar for the alleged dereliction of duty and the “failure” to control crime.
