New Delhi, June 1

A government servant who was allegedly forced into Rs. 87 crore misappropriation died by suicide in Shivamogga of Karnataka blaming his department officers for creating pressure and coaxing him into misappropriation.

The police identified him as Chandrasekaran P (50) , a superintendent of the Karnataka Maharshi Valmiki Scheduled Tribes Development Corporation (KMVSTDC). He blamed his senior officials for forcing him into over Rs 87 crore fund misappropriation.

Chandrasekaran had written a six-page note before dying by suicide, due to pressure regarding an alleged misappropriation of money and blamed two department officials - JG Padmanabha and Parashuram, the Managing Director and an accountant with the Scheduled Tribes Corporation, respectively. He also named Shuchita, the Chief Manager of the Union Bank of India branch in Bengaluru.

Channabasappa, BJP MLA from Shivamogga, alleged that Chandrasekaran "specifically mentioned the minister's name" in his suicide letter. State BJP president BY Vijayendra also demanded the resignation of B Nagendra.

"The minister has given a statement that Rs 25 crore has been recovered. There must be an impartial and fair probe to investigate where this money had gone. This investigation is not possible by a CID and hence we demand that it should be handed over to the CBI," he added.

The Karnataka government has transferred the case to Karnataka CID for a detailed probe.
