Group of men chanting 'Jay Shri Ram' enter into wedding venue, fire at people killing one

New Delhi, December 14

A group of men chanting 'Jai Shri Ram' barged into a wedding in Madhya Pradesh's Mandsaur and fired shots leaving one dead.

The police identified the deceased as Devi Lal Meena, former sarpanch of the village.

Meena was a resident of Jamuniya village of Mandsaur district. He had been elected the sarpanch of the village twice. Meena was also supported by the Bharatiya Janata Party.

The incident was reportedly captured in a video. The purported video shows a group of men entering the premises. One of them 

in a red pullover fired from his revolver. 

The victim received a bullet in his chest and was declared dead at the arrival in the hospital.

The Mandsaur police registered an FIR was lodged against eleven persons. Four persons have been arrested.

SP Mandsaur, Sunil Pandey stated that the incident took place at a marriage function being organised by the supporters of Baba Rampal in Bhesoda Mandi village. Nearly 300 persons had gathered at the event. The villagers objected to the gathering due to which a scuffle broke out between the attendees and villagers. Following the  tussle the man (as seen in the video) opened fire.

The police added that as per Meena's family, the shooter is suspected to be one Shailendra Ojha. 

The family and villagers have expressed outrage. The villagers organized a protest demanding justice. 

The family has refused to cremate the body till the shooter is arrested.
