HM Amit Shah to hold security meeting on J&K terror attacks

The security review meeting will be attended by National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, J&K Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and senior officials of the CRPF and Army

New Delhi, June 15

After taking over as the union Home Minister for the third time, Amit Shah will host the first high-level meeting on June 16 after a series of terror attacks shook Jammu and Kashmir, killing and injuring security personnel as well as civilians.

Jammu and Kashmir witnessed a spate of terror attacks for four days in the districts of Reasi, Doda and Kathua.

The  security review meeting will be attended by National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, J&K Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and senior officials of the CRPF and Army. Doval was appointed as the National Security Advisor for the third time on June 12 and will be given a Cabinet Ministry later.

HM Shah held a review meeting on June 14 to assess the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir ahead of the upcoming Amarnath Yatra.

The high-level security meeting by Shah comes days after Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a meeting to assess the security measures where he directed senior officials to ensure the “deployment of the full spectrum” of “counter-terror capabilities”.

PM Modi spoke to Shah to discuss counter-terror operations and deployment of security forces in Jammu and Kashmir.

Meanwhile, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) held a protest against the recent terror attacks in Jammu and Kashmir, seeking an explanation for the “alarming” security situation contrary to the government’s claims of restoration of peace in the Union Territory.
