Infiltration and terrorist attacks declined in last year- MHA in Lok Sabha

New Delhi, August 9

The Ministry of Home Affairs during the ongoing session in Lok Sabha mentioned about the decline of infiltration and terrorism on borders and cited the use of technology, equipment, intelligence and proactive work of Central Paramilitary Forces (CAPF) behind the same. 

Union Minister of State for Home Nishith Pramanik told Lok Sabha that two Border Security Force (BSF) personnel and 21 local civilians involved in infiltration attempts have been apprehended since 2021.

MoS Nishith Pramanik mentioned the use of advanced technology and equipment used to counter infiltration on borders. 

He said, "To stop infiltration along Indo-Pakistan and Indo-Bangladesh Borders, the government has adopted a multi-pronged approach which inter-alia includes round the clock surveillance and patrolling on the borders and establishment of observation post; increase in number of BSF personnel; construction of border fencing and floodlighting; use of water crafts/boats and floating Border Out Posts (BOP) for domination of riverine area; advance technological equipment like Hand Held Thermal Imager (HHTI), Night vision Device (NVD), Twin Telescope, Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV); upgradation of intelligence setup and enhanced coordination with the State Governments/concerned intelligence agencies". 

Union MoS Home Nityanand Rai has told told Lok Sabha last week that the incidents of terrorist violence and infiltration have declined during the last two years in Jammu and Kashmir. 

He said, “The Central government has a policy of zero tolerance against terrorism and the security situation has improved significantly in Jammu and Kashmir. The measures taken by the government to curb terrorist violence include proactive counter-insurgency operations against terrorists, identification and arrest of over-ground supporters of terrorists, deployment of police, Army, Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs); night patrolling and area domination". 

He further said, “Attachment of properties belonging to terrorists and their associates under relevant sections of law, sharing of intelligence inputs amongst all security forces on a real-time basis and intensified Cordon and Search Operations (CASO) are undertaken to thwart any terrorist incidents in Jammu & Kashmir". 

According to Rai, the Central government has adopted a well-coordinated and multi-pronged strategy to tackle the cross-border infiltration. This includes tactical deployment of forces at International Border (IB)/Line of Control (LoC), use of technology like Surveillance Cameras, Night Vision Cameras, Heat Sensing Gadgets, etc., multi-tiered deployment along IB/LoC, border fencing, deployment of intelligence personnel to collect advance and target-oriented inputs on infiltration, ambushes and foot-patrolling by Army/BSF, establishment of Border Police Posts for generating local intelligence and taking proactive action against infiltrators.
