The Home Department of the Government of National Capital Territory (NCT) has transferred three IPS officers in Delhi Police while appointing IPS officer Madhur Verma as the new Chief of the Delhi Anti Corruption Bureau.
Additional CP Madhur Verma who was posted as additional CP Armed Unit of the Delhi Police has been appointed as the head of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB). An officer of 2005 batch, Madhur Verma was posted in the Armed Unit in January this year when he was serving as additional CP Security.
Verma’s stint in Delhi Police was as the DCP of the Delhi Crime Branch was where he was involved in investigations of several key cases. As DCP Crime, he investigated the IPL spot fixing case where six players from Rajasthan Royals team were found involved.
He also probed the 2014 Uber rape case in which a woman, working with a Gurgaon firm, was allegedly raped by an Uber cab driver.
Verma was also involved in investigating the case in which AMMK leader TTV Dhinakaran was arrested for allegedly conspiring with middlemen Sukesh Chandrasekhar and others to bribe unidentified Election Commission officials to get the two leaves symbol for Sasikala-led AIADMK faction.
He was also the spokesperson of Delhi Police when he earned appreciation as one of the few officers to streamline the media police interactions with better coordination. He also served as DCP North District before serving in the Delhi Crime Branch.
He was transferred to Arunachal Pradesh in 2019 where he served for almost more than two years when he was also promoted to the rank of the deputy IGP.
Madhur Verma will now head the ACB looking into corruption cases in Delhi whereas Sunil Kumar Gautam who was serving as Special Commissioner of the ACB has been transferred to the Delhi Police Headquarters.
The 1989 batch officer, SK Gautam will be given a posting in a few days’ time.
Meanwhile, IPS officer, B Shanker Jaiswal, an officer of the 2001 batch has been appointed as Jt. CP Operations and Technology Division that was headed by IPS officer Prem Nath. Jaiswal was posted in the Bureau of Police Research & Development (BPR&D).
