In a joint operation, the police, Indian Army and CRPF arrested a terror associate and recovered a huge cache of arms from him in Pooch district of Jammu and Kashmir.
The accused has been identified as Mohammed Shabir, who was in touch with his Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) - based handler Azim Khan, who directed him to collect the arms from Surankot, police stated.
Shabir was arrested by the police after seizing the arms and further investigation into the case was launched.
The police added that at a joint checkpost established at Poonch district's Potha bypass, the security personnel noticed a person suspiciously coming from Surankot. The suspect tried to escape but was arrested by the alerted personnel. During the search operation, the forces recovered three hand grenades, explosive items and other incriminating material from the accused.
In July this year, the Jammu and Kashmir Police also arrested two overground workers of the Pakistan-based terror group, Jaish-e-Mohammed, who were allegedly linked to the terror attack on Army vehicles in Kathua which claimed the lives of five soldiers and injured five others.
