Kolkata Doctor Death- Parents join the protest, reveal Kolkata police tried to bribe them

Kolkata turned lights off at night in 'Reclaim the Night' campaign to support the ongoing protests of the doctors against the rape-murder of young doctor of RG Kar Medical College

New Delhi, September 5

The family of trainee doctor who was raped and murdered Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College made revelations on how Kolkata Police allegedly attempted to suppress the case by hurriedly cremating the doctor's body and even tried to bribe them.

The city witnessed fresh turn of protests on September 4 in a unique civic unity where large parts of the city turned lights off at night  in 'Reclaim the Night' campaign. to mark protest against the alleged hotch potch investigation of Kolkata police and the sequence of events that opened a pandora's box in the case. 

The parents of the trainee doctor also joined the protest to support the junior doctors fighting for justice for their daughter.

Her parents told media, “The police, from the very beginning, tried to hush up the case. We were not allowed to see the body and had to wait at the police station while the body was taken for post-mortem examination. Later, when the body was handed over to us, a senior police official offered us money, which we immediately declined."

The case was initially investigated by the Kolkata Police but was later handed over to the CBI after the Calcutta High Court order. 

While the main accused Sanjay Toy was held by Kolkata police and later in custody of CBI he tried to midlead the investigators by claiming that when he had reached the hospital, the victim was already dead and lying in the seminar hall. His pscuho analysis test showed that he has ‘animal like instincts’ andhe is a por addict. He had multiple cases of violence registered against him in Kolkata. The polygraph test was also conducted on him. 

The CBI also arrested Dr. Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, in connection with alleged financial misconduct at the establishment.
