Maharashtra police neutralizes three naxals in Gadchiroli district

The bodies were later identified as that of senior Naxals including divisional committee member Vasu, in-charge and commander of the Perimili dalam

New Delhi, May 14

The Maharashtra Police neutralized three Naxals including two women in Gadchiroli district after the latter allegedly opened fire during a search operation.

The police teams were working on an intel that some members of the Naxals’ Perimili dalam were camping in a forest area near Katrangatta village in Bhamragad taluka. Two units of police were dispatched to the forest, and while searches were being carried out by the team. The Naxals allegedly launched an attack on police. 

The Gadchiroli police stated that two units of C60 led by Additional SP (operations) Yatish Deshmukh were doing an area search operation when they were fired on indiscriminately by the Naxals, to which our C60 teams retaliated strongly. The firing went on for an hour after the bodies of the naxals were spotted. 

The police seized three automatic weapons including an AK47, 1 Carbine and 1 INSAS, Naxal literature and other belongings were recovered from the firing spot.

The police later learnt that the bodies were of senior Naxals including divisional committee member Vasu, in-charge and commander of the Perimili dalam. 

The officials added that the identities of the other members are being ascertained as further search and anti-Naxal operations are underway in the area.
