New Delhi, June 21

The Manipur Governor reviewed the law and order situation in the state and directed the Manipur DGP to initiate prompt actions against those involved in the recent violence.

Governor Anusuiya Uikey held a discussion with Director General of Police Rajiv Singh at Raj Bhavan in Imphal after fresh violence was reported from areas of Jiribam and Kangpokpi districts.

Earlier this week, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said the central government will initiate talks with both the Meitei and Kuki communities at the earliest to bridge the ethnic divide in Manipur.

The Governor asked the police chief to ensure necessary security measures in Kangpokpi, Tengnoupal, Churachandpur, and all the valley districts. He asked DGP Singh to provide possible help to the displaced people in Jiribam district.

The DGP briefed the Governor about the recent incidents in Jiribam district and the follow-up actions taken by the state police with Central forces, while outlining security measures in other parts of the state..

Security Advisor Kuldiep Singh also called on the Governor to apprise her about the security situation.

Even after a year of bloody ethnic violence between the Kuki and Meitei communities, tension grips many parts of the state, with fresh incidents of violence often being reported.
