Meerut Police registers FIR against two Twitter accounts for uploading video of two minor students on Twitter

New Delhi, June 8
The Meerut police registered an FIR against two Twitter accounts for allegedly uploading a video of two minor students alleging “love jihad”.
The police said the Twitter accounts, namely @WokePatroller and @Theintrepid, were spreading rumours by sharing videos of the two minor students alleging “love jihad”.
The police have lodged an FIR under Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 469 (Forgery for purpose of harming reputation) and 505(1)(Whoever makes, publishes or circulates any statement, rumour or report) has been registered.
As per the case details, some of the videos went viral on Twitter showing a group of men entering a building in Meerut’s Shastri Nagar area and questioning the girl and the boy, who is from the Muslim community.
The Meerut police issued a statement saying both of them are minors and were studying together for the NEET exam. “Both are from the same place and know each other. This has been confirmed in writing by the family members. There is no criminal issue in the case".
The families of the girl and boy also recorded statement with police that their kids are being defamed on social media and the families know each other.
