MHA launches web portal for citizens to apply for CAA

New Delhi, March 12
The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) launched a new portal – indiancitizenshiponline.nic.in – for people applying for citizenship under the Citizenship (Amendment) Act 2019.
The Centre notified the rules of CAA 2019 on March 11, a move that comes four years after the contentious law was passed in the Parliament.
The MHA stated, “The Citizenship (Amendment) Rules, 2024 under the CAA-2019 have been notified. A new portal has been launched, persons eligible under CAA-2019 can apply for citizenship on this portal indiancitizenshiponline.nic.in".
According to the Act any Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist, Jain, Parsi or Christian who entered India before December 31, 2014 from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan, can now seek Indian citizenship without producing a valid passport of these countries or a valid visa from India.
The government will also launch a mobile app called ‘CAA-2019′ to facilitate the applications.
