Minor girls paraded naked in village of MP, NCPCR orders inquiry

In a shameful incident reported from Damoh district in Madhya Pradesh, six young girls were paraded naked in the village to appease rain God.
The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) has issued a notice to Madhya Pradesh Police and Damoh district SP to probe the incident and submit an action taken report at the earliest.
As per the case details, the incident took place in Baniya village of Damoh district, where six minor girls were paraded naked in the village. As a part of the social practice to please God for rains and eradicate evil, the "ritual" was carried out.
In this, the girls walk naked wih a wooden shaft rested on their shoulders with a frog tied to it. Women accompanying these girls sing bhajans to please Rain God.
Two videos of the incident surfaced wherein in one video girls of the age of about five years were seen walking naked with the wooden shaft and a frog tied to it while they were surrounded by women singing bhajans.
In the second video too, the woman were heard singing that the paddy crops are dying due to rain deficit.
After the girls walk in the village, the women collect raw food materials from all in the village and organize a feast at the village temple for all villagers.
The police added that the whole village had taken part in the incident with full support including the parents of the girls. There is noone in the village who objected to it or record a statement against the practice.
The police further stated that the family of the girls would be counselled against such superstitious practices and village authorities would be warned to ensure these incidents don't repeat.
The officials added that the Damoh district administration will submit the inquiry report to the NCPCR.
