PayTm Founder Vijay Sharma arrested for ramming into Delhi Police DCP's car, later released on bail

New Delhi, March 14

The Delhi Police had arrested Vijay Shekhar Sharma, the founder and CEO of Paytm for allegedly ramming into a DCP South Delhi’s car. Sharma was later released on bail. 

Sharma who driving a Jaguar Land Rover had hit the vehicle of DCP (South district) Benita Mary Jaiker outside The Mother’s International School on Aurobindo Marg on February 22.

Constable Dipak Kumar, the driver of the DCP had filed a complaint with the police station. The Delhi Police had registered an FIR in Malviyanagar police station. 

As per the complaint of Constable Dipak Kumar, he had taken her vehicle to a petrol pump. When they reached Mother’s International School and found a traffic jam there and people droppings children to school, they slowed down. One of the police operators Pradeep who was in the car went down to clear the traffic. 

While they were waiting for the jam to clear, a car came from the side and rammed into the vehicle. The driver fled from the spot and left the DCP’s car damaged. 

Sharma was called to the police station, where he was arrested and released on bail.

A Paytm spokesperson released a statement on March 13 stating, “A complaint was filed in connection with an alleged minor motor vehicle incident. There was no harm caused to any person or property in the said incident. Media reports claiming the nature of the arrest are exaggerated, as even the complaint against the vehicle was for a minor offense under a bailable provision of law and requisite legal formalities were completed on the same day.”
