New Delhi, November 24
The annual DG &IG conference was held at Lucknow this year where the Prime Minister Narendra Modi called for setting up a high level police technology mission under the leadership of the Home Minister so that futuristic technologies can be adapted to the grassroots police requirements.
According to an official statement, while addressing the concluding session of the 56th Director General of Police/Inspector General Conference held in Lucknow, the Prime Minister stressed on institutionalizing this process of learning and analysis of all police related incidents. He appreciated the conduct of the conference in a hybrid format (both online and offline) and said that it has facilitated the flow of information between officers at different levels.
The PM emphasized on the development of interoperable technologies for the benefit of the police force across the country. He emphasized on positive use of drone technology for the benefit of the public and review of the concept of smart policing launched in 2014. The Prime Minister suggested developing a roadmap for continuous change in this concept and institutionalizing it in the police forces, as per the statement.
The PM also gave the example of the online platform ‘Co-Win’ for Covid-19 vaccination and the payment system ‘UPI’. He also praised the positive change in the behavior of the police towards the public after the Covid epidemic to address the importance of technology in policing.
To solve the day-to-day challenges of the police, the Prime Minister called for engaging youth with higher technology education so that technical solutions can be found.
On this occasion, the Prime Minister presented the President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service to the Intelligence Bureau personnel. For the first time, on the instructions of the Prime Minister, IPS officers from different states presented their articles on contemporary security issues, adding to the importance of the conference
