Swiss woman Murder- Delhi Police suspect human trafficking, probe high cash flow of Gurpreet Singh

New Delhi, October 23

The Delhi Police probing the murder of Swiss woman from Janakpuri area of the city have found that the accused had transactons of several crores of rupees. 

The woman's body was found near an MCD-run school in West Delhi last week.

The accused was identified as Gurpreet Singh (33) a resident of Janakpuri who allegedly killed the woman. The police while raiding his house seized Rs. two crores of money and whiel sacanning his bank accounts several crores were found.

As per the case details, the accused, Gurpreet Singh met Nina Berger on a dating app in 2021 while he was travelling to Zurich, Switzerland, to meet his relatives. Singh soon reportedly proposed Berger into marrying him however shrejected his proposal citing multiple reasons. 

The police arrested him through CCTV footage that showed a “turban-clad” man and a white car on October 18 near the spot. 

The police found chains, plastic bag and other evidence he used to chain and wrap the woman with before strangling her. The accused first mislead police and denied going to Switzerland and pressuring her for marriage but the police found all the evidences of his travel and datinhg app chats. 

The police also while scanning Singh's devices found multiple photos and videos of Singh with different women and girls. They also found chats between him and these women/girls. The police have also not ruled out the human trafficking point.  

The police also found that Singh’s car, which was purchased on October 8, was also found registered in the name of a friend who is suspected of being involved in sex work. The woman is also being questioned since it was her car which was used to kill the Swiss national.  

The police also wrote to the Ministry of External Affairs and the Swiss Embassy to know more about Berger’s family and inform them about her death. The police are aprobing the case from various angles and also involved the Income Tax department to probe of high cash transactions of Singh.
