Teen dies of electrocution, stampede situation in Kalkaji temple in Delhi

Teen boy died of electrocution at Kalkaji Mandir during Navratra festivities. Six more people were injured in a stampede following the electrocution incident as people began running. 

The police stated that the incident took place around 12.40 am near the merging point of Ram Pyau and Lotus Temple. 

The deceased was identified as Mayank (15) from Ghaziabad who was at Kalkaji Mandir with his family for darshan. He was a Class 9th student. 

The police said that the electric wire used for installing halogen lights for the festivities was torn and came in contact with the iron railing. 

Those injured were soon rushed to nearby hospitals and electricity supply to the affected area was immediately disconnected to prevent further harm.

Four of the injured were admitted to AIIMS Trauma Centre, and three others to Safdarjung Hospital. Doctors at Safdarjung later declared one individual dead on arrival. “,” said DCP Deo.

The police called in forensic teams, along with staff from BSES for a detailed investigation.

The police have registered under section 289 (negligent conduct with respect to machinery), 125(9) (act endangering life or personal safety of others) and 106(1) (causing death by negligence) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

This is the second accident on the premises of Kalkaji Mandir this year. In January, a 45-year-old woman was killed and 17 others were injured after a makeshift stage at a jagran collapsed. Police said the organisers had not taken permission for the event, adding that 1,500-1,700 people were present at the gathering. The incident took place when popular singer B Praak began singing and people gathered around the central stage to take a closer look.
