Two police personnel of J&K Police found dead in fratricide, suicide case

The two policemen, who died, were the driver and a head constable of the Jammu and Kashmir Police

New Delhi, December 9

Two police personnel were found dead with bullet injuries in Jammu and Kashmir's Udhampur district. The police suspect it to be a case of "suicide and fratricide".

The bullet-riddled bodies of the cops were seen lying inside a police van outside a Kali Mata temple in Udhampur at around 6.30 am on December 8, following which the police were alerted. 

The slain policemen were travelling from north Kashmir's Sopore to the Subsidiary Training Centre (STC) in Reasi district's Talwara sub-division when the incident happened. 

The two policemen, who died, were the driver and a head constable of the Jammu and Kashmir Police.

The Udhampur police stated that their police station received information that 2 policemen from Sopore travelling towards STC Talwara in a department vehicle have suffered bullet injuries due to firing. The initial investigation reveals that it's a case of fratricide and suicide. Senior police officers reached the spot & investigation is going on. 

After the incident, the bodies of the slain officials were shifted to Udhampur's district hospital for postmortem. 

Senior officers of J&K Police rushed to the spot. Another constable, who was also travelling in the same vehicle, escaped unhurt and was being questioned about the incident.

In June last 2023, a 23-year-old Special Police Officer (SPO) of the Jammu and Kashmir Police shot himself dead with his service rifle in Kathua district.
