New Delhi, November 11

A young woman who accused the station house officer (SHO) of a police station of failing to take action against her neighbour whom she accused of raping her died after consuming poison outside the police station.

The police stated that the woman went to the area police station and allegedly consumed poison. The police took her to a nearby hospital where she received initial medical care before being referred to Bareilly for further treatment. She died during treatment in Bareilly next day.

A video came to the fore on social media which showed the victim accusing the area police station’s SHO of accepting money from the accused and failing to probe the case. She can also be heard claiming that the SHO urged her to consume poisonous substances.

The Pilibhit police have denied all the allegations. They stated that the woman consumed poison after she came to know that the accused secretly got married two months ago. The woman and the rape accused were in a relationship for the past seven years.

As per the case details, the woman lodged an FIR against the accused in May on charges of rape at the area police station. The victim claimed the accused had deceived her under the pretext of marrying her. She also alleged that the accused had gone to Dubai about three years ago, and when he recently returned to India, he refused to marry her.

Pilibhit Superintendent of Police Avinash Pandey has instructed Circle Officer Deepak Chaturvedi to conduct an inquiry into the matter and submit a report as soon as possible.
