Angry over traffic penalties, youth sets bike on fire in Telangana

New Delhi, August 10
A youth from Telangana allegedly set his motorcycle on fire after being slapped penalties worth more than Rs 4,500 for allegedly violating various traffic norms.
The incident took place in Vikarabad district of Telangana. The youth identified as Talari Sangappa, an agricultural labourer from Peddamul village.
As per the case details, Sangappa had accumulated penalties worth Rs 4,800 for various traffic offences, including helmetless riding.
On August 8, Sangappa was travelling to Tandur from Peddamul on his motorcycle when traffic police personnel intercepted him once again over alleged violation of traffic rules. The traffic cops told him that they would allow him to go only he paid the pending penalties.
Sangappa, however, managed to flee from the spot. He took his two-wheeler behind the Rythu Seva Sahakara building and set it on fire using petrol.
When the district police arrived at the scene and asked him why he set the vehicle afire, Sangappa told them he was "angry" over the penalties slapped on him.
The police however stated that it is yet to be ascertained with the traffic police if the youth will still have to pay the penalties.
