Businessman kidnapped for ransome in Kolkata for not repaying borrowed loan

The businessman was taken in various cars and held captive in a hotel when his father refused ransom calls by the accused

New Delhi, June 25

The Kolkata police rescued a kidnapped businessman and arrested eight persons who abducted him for not repaying the loan. 

The victim was rescued from a hotel in the East Kolkata area. 

The prime accused,has been identified as Gairik Mukherjee alias David and one Vivek who are now arrested; following their interrogation, six more were arrested. 

The other arrested accused were identified as Ashutosh Roy, Suraj Kumar Singh, Rohit Roy, Mohammed Alquama, Aman Kumar Gupta and Kundan Srivastav. 

The victim was identified as Mohammed Irfan, a resident of Kolkata who left his home on the evening of June 21 but didn't return home till next day. His father lodged a police complaint that he had received several calls from unknown numbers demanding the loaned amount of money and also threats of death to his son unless that amount was paid.

During the investigation, it was revealed that the victim had been abducted from near New Market in central Kolkata, and he was taken away from the location by a car. He was also taken to different areas in the city, like Kasba and Narendrapur. The accused then made ransom calls to his father were made, but when they did not pay off, the victim was detained in a hotel in Mukundapur area in East Kolkata from where he was rescued by a joint team of the Kolkata police.

The police stated that the  victim used to run a call centre in the Narendrapur area which was raided by police and stopped. David had given a loan of Rs 16 lakh to the victim, but he was not repaying it since the call centre was closed, which prompted the accused to kidnap him and extort money.
