Couple waylaid in Guntur, wife allegedly gangraped while husband brutally assaulted

New Delhi, September 10

In a shocking incident in Guntur of Andhra Pradesh, a woman was allegedly gangraped and her husband was thrashed by a group of men.

The Guntur police stated that the couple were waylaid by a group of men near the Medikonduru bypass road of Guntur district. 

The police have detained eight suspects and are interrogating them. The suspects work at a nearby cold storage warehouse.

According to the police, the incident reportedly took place at 9.30 pm when the couple was returning home to Sattenapalli on a motorbike after attending a wedding function. They were stopped by men near the Paladugu crossroads. The couple was first assaulted and robbed of their money and gold jewellery. After that, the woman was dragged to the nearby field, where she was allegedly gang-raped by the men.
The couple reported the incident to police after which they were shifted to Guntur Government Hospital for treatment. 

Recently, the Mysuru college girl was gangraped by a group of men from Tamil Nadu who had attempted to rob her and her male friend on a bypass road. All the accused arrested later were labourers from Tamil Nadu.
