The Delhi Police has launched a massive drive against illegal immigration since January 1 at various places where illegal immigrants were found living in the city. and Seven persons have been deported to Bangladesh. The police started a drive following Delhi L-G VK Saxena's December 10 order on illegal immigrants in the city.
The police informed that five of them had come to India last August, allegedly on the pretext of getting a work visa from the Bosnia embassy.
The police launched a lookout for illegal immigrants at Mawasi Colony Guest House in Madanpur Khadar area by the IIDT (Illegal Immigrant Detection Team) of Southeast district and apprehended five persons. The police initiated legal action has been initiated against the owner of the guest house where the individuals were staying for failing to adhere to the mandatory provisions of the Foreigners Act, 1946.
In a separate operation, a couple hailing from Bangladesh’s Bagaerghat district, was allegedly found to be living in the southwest district since 2012.
The officials added that so far 5,000 people have been screened and dozens of alleged illegal Bangladeshi immigrants have been deported for staying illegally in Delhi amid the ongoing drive.
