Delhi Police arrests a matrimonial fraudster who conned women, siphoned off money

The accused from Panipat used to high-earning manager and targeted women seeking marriage or companionship

New Delhi, December 16

The Delhi Police arrested a former security guard who allegedly posed as a high-earning professional on matrimonial websites and cheated dozens of women over seven years.

The accused was identified as Manoj Gahlyan (35) from Panipat district. 

DCP (West) Vichitra Veer stated that Gahlyan used to create profiles on popular matrimonial sites posing as a high-earning manager and targeted women seeking marriage or companionship. 

The accused used to identify gullible women and lure them by pretending to be a high-salaried man in a reputed office, earning Rs 15-20 lakhs. He would build trust by meeting them and then steal their credit or debit card details to siphon off money. 

The police tracked him down at Usmanpur area. Five debit cards and a mobile phone bought using the complainant’s card were recovered from him.

The police added that a victim approached the Cyber (West) police station and raised a complaint. After getting acquainted with her on a matrimonial site, the accused allegedly took her bank account and credit card details over the course of time. Later, he used the information to make unauthorised transactions,

The police traced his bank account address which was false. The investigators then scanned CCTV footage analysis, account withdrawals, and purchases and grabbed him.
