Delhi police constable shoots himself in the head while on duty, critical

New Delhi, August 16

A constable from Delhi Police allegedly allegedly shot himself near a police picket in Vasant Vihar. He was found on the side of a road by a boy who was out for a walk.

The incident left many citizens in the area shocked and panic in the area seeing the constable in a pool of blood lying on the road. 

The injured constable was identified as Rakesh (35) who is currently critical. 

DCP (South West) Ingit Pratap Singh stated that they received a PCR call about the incident at around 6 am that a constable was lying on the road with a bullet injury. The caller was a minor who was out for a morning walk when he saw the constable.

The police teams rushed to Poorvi Marg and found that the constable had shot himself on the right side of his head.

The bullet had exited from the left side, leaving Rakesh severely injured. He was rushed to the AIIMS Trauma Center. 

The police added that he used his service pistol to shoot himself.

The Delhi police has initiated an inquiry has been initiated to ascertain the reason behind the incident.
