Delhi Police North District held a cyber cheat who duped many states on Instagram with I Phone Pro deals.
The accused was identified as Yogesh Tiwari from NIT Faridabad.
The cyber cell of North district Delhi Police received a complaint on July 22 that she saw an advertisement on Instagram Page of a mobile shop namely Foneofy, which was selling i-Phone12 Pro at Rs 25,000/- (whereas, actual Price was Rs 1,25,000/-). She contacted Foneofy on Instgram and over WhatsApp Number 7280****** and provided her postal address for courier and also made a payment of Rs 24,290/- in the account of Foneofy over an online gateway.
After waiting for several days, she again contacted Foneofy and found that she had been blocked on Instagram and whatsapp, after which see filed the complaint.
An enquiry was conducted by above said Cyber Cell team and it was found that the mobile phone 7280****** location is in Faridabad, Haryana but having ownership of Bihar. The team further conducted technical investigation of the call detail and online payment details.
The officials added that during enquiry of Foeofy, the team also found one YouTube video in which one person, namely Chandru R/o Chennai, Tamilnadu (URL https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bi9_d36gjKA) also alleged about cheating by Instagram Page of Foneofy and whatsapp number 7280*****. Some detail provided by him in the YouTube video also helped in the investigation.
Online Wallet details linked to the mobile phone 7280****** were also collected from payment gateways.
The police seized four mobile phones and nine SIM cards, which was used to contact complainant on WhatsApp and log-in to Instagram account of Foneofy, were recovered from the possession of the accused, police added.
The police also recovered one bullet he purchased from previously cheated amount also recovered from his possession.
The cyber cell officials stated that Yogesh who barely finished his high school is a tech savvy person. He downloaded photos and videos of i-phones and uploaded on discounted rates in Instagram and cheated interested victims. Earlier, he used to buy Chinese iPhone from Gaffar Market and was sending the same to the cheated people. Later, he stopped even sending mobile phone.
The accused has more the 1,04,000 followers in his foneofyinstagram page. He also bought followers and promos on Instagram to gain trust of victim prior to payment.
The police found mobile numbers of people from different states, who all suspected to be victims in the call detail of the accused.
The cyber cell is further investigating the case.
