Delhi Police official's son fires in the head of a man in a suspected case of road rage

New Delhi, August 27

In a suspected case of road rage, a 22-year-old man was allegedly shot in the head near IGI Airport. 

The victim identified as Sandeep Bhati, is undergoing treatment and said to be critical. 

The police identified the accused as Nitin Singh (27) who is the son of a police officer, was drunk at the time. He has been arrested by the police. The police added that Singh lives in Kalkaji police lines. 

The police said that Bhati, property business, was in his Hyundai Verna car along with three friends – Ashu, Gaurav and Vipin – when the incident took place around 5 am. 

Bhati and his friends had allegedly tried to overtake Singh’s blue Swift car twice. This enraged Singh who then followed the victim’s car and fired at them twice – the first bullet hit the rear windshield while the second hit Bhati’s head, police added.

The police had received a PCR call about the firing and rushed to the spot. The police found one the friends, Ashu at the spot who told police that Bhati was shifted to a hospital in Noida.

When we reached the hospital, Gaurav said they were on their way back from a temple in Bhiwadi when an unknown person started following them from the airport. 

According to the police, the accused was driving with the car’s headlights off. He had switched off his car’s headlights and waylaid them near RTR Marg. He parked his car near them, pulled out a pistol, and allegedly started firing. As Bhati’s friends tried to stop the shooter, he fled. 

During investigation, police scanned CCTV footage from the Delhi-Gurgaon border till Kalkaji and identified the car’s colour and model based on a description given by the victim’s friends.

The police found out that the car is owned by a woman who is a head constable in South Delhi district.

After the firing incident, he drove to Kalkaji where he rammed into a road divider. He then sent his car to a repair shop in Okhla, which has been seized, police added
