Delhi Police organises self defence training 'Sashakti' for girls and women in the city

New Delhi, June 2

The Delhi Police's Special Police Unit for Women and Children (SPUWAC) is organizing the 18th Summer Camp - 2022 to impart self defence techniques training to college and school going girls, working women and housewives in Delhi with a view to empower them

The training shall be conducted in martial arts from June 16 to 27 (except Sunday) from 09:00 am to 11:00 am at five different places in Delhi (Free of Cost).

The SPUWAC of Delhi Police that dealing with women safety issues and representing Delhi Police on various forums. However, in view of increasing need to give special consideration to women, SPUWAC is imparting Self Defence Training to girl/women since 2002 in primarily marginalized sections of society for empowering them through training in martial arts.

DCP (SPUWAC) Joy Tirkey stated that Sashakti Programme empowers girl students, working women and housewives  are trained in basic self defence techniques and are taught how to make use of things like ‘Dupatta’, Pen, Handbags and other items available with them to protect themselves from attacks by anti-social elements, criminals, snatchers etc. 

This training helps in building the self confidence in girls/women so that they do not feel vulnerable and also encourage them to join professional combat courses in future. Self defence techniques training classes, summer and winter camps, as well as one day self defence workshops all over Delhi are being organized regularly, by the Self Defence Wing of SPUWAC at Nanakpura.

A street play for 30 minutes and one hour session of gender sensitization for boys at the same venue for one day will also be organized. 

The registration for participants in this camp has strated from June 1 and will continue till June 11 through the Delhi Police website and also the nearest police station.

For online registration the participants need to visit the Delhi Police website and register themselves using the ‘Sashakti Registration Link’ provided on the Delhi Police webpage. 

The participants can also use the QR code available on Sashakti Self Defence Training Camp advertisements to log on to the Delhi Police website and register themselves for the self defence training. 

Five venues have been shortlisted for the programme:-

Sawan Kripal Ruhani Mission, Gujrawalan Town-III

Green Field Public School, Dilshad Garden

Birla Vidya Niketan, Sec-4, Pushp Vihar
