Delhi Police pays homage to the police Martyrs on the Police Commemoration Day

New Delhi, October 20

The Delhi Police organized Commemoration Day Parade in remembrance of police personnel who laid down their lives in serving their respective forces between September 2020 and August 2021.

The parade was held at New Police Lines Ground, Kingsway Camp in Delhi.

The Commissioner of Police, Delhi Rakesh Asthana read out the names of 6 martyrs of Delhi Police and State and Central Police 

Organization-wise number of personnel who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty, during the period. 

In all, 377 police personnel including 6 of Delhi Police were killed while serving in their respective forces. 

State and Central Police Organizations-wise details of personnel killed during the mentioned period are Andhra Pradesh-11, Arunachal Pradesh-03, Assam-07, Bihar-06, Chhattisgarh-32, Himachal Pradesh-04, Jharkhand-04, Karnataka-16, Kerala-02, Madhya Pradesh-15, Manipur-03, Meghalaya-01, Odisha-04, Punjab-02, Rajasthan-02, Tamil Nadu-01, Uttar Pradesh-04, Uttarakhand-03, West Bengal-17, Andaman & Nicobar-02, Chandigarh-02, Delhi-06, Jammu & Kashmir-17, Laddhakh-01, Assam Rifles-03, BSF-47, CISF-08, CRPF-82, ITBP-54, NSG-01, SSB-05, FS/CD& HG-03, NDRF-01 and RPF-08.

The day is revered as the police commemoration day as 62 years ago on  October 21, 1959, a small troop of the Indian policemen who were stationed at Ladakh for the safety of the nation was suddenly ambushed and attacked by a huge number of Chinese soldiers who were hiding in the mountains. During the attack, 10 Indian police personnel were martyred. Since then, in order to pay homage these brave martyrs we remember them on this day.

The police force also pays homage to all those brave personnel who sacrificed their lives in the service of the nation in the last one year.

The CP Rakesh Asthana paid homage to martyrs by lying wreath at the memorial. Ex-Governors Dr. K.K. Paul and Kiran Bedi, retired Police Commissioners  T.R. Kakkar and Sh. B.K. Gupta and many serving and retired Delhi Police officers & men also paid homage by laying wreath at the memorial. 

A two minutes silence was observed in remembrance of martyrs. 

Details of Delhi Police martyrs are as under:-

1. ASI Radhey Shyam (Traffic) Date of Martyrdom-16.09.2020. He was posted at Burari Circle in Traffic Unit. On 16.09.2020, he along with staff was present opposite ITI, Dheer Pur at Outer Ring Road for traffic regulation. He noticed an LGV truck was not plying in its lane and signaled the driver to stop. As the driver applied the brake, another truck coming from the same side hit from behind. Resultantly, ASI Radhey Shyam got severe injuries and was shifted to BJRM Hospital, Jahangirpuri, where doctor declared him brought dead.

2. ASI Ram Pal (West District) Date of Martyrdom 04.10.2020

On 02.10.2020, a team of PS Vikas Puri including ASI Ram Pal had proceeded to Sidharth Nagar District, UP in connection with investigation of kidnapping case. When the team was returning and reached near Fatehabad on the Lucknow – Agra expressway, their vehicle met with an accident. All the victims were rushed to S.N. Medical College, Agra, where ASI Ram Pal was declared brought dead.

3. HC Raj Singh (South District) Date of Martyrdom 05.10.2020 HC Raj Singh was posted at PS Saket, South District, New Delhi and on 08.06.2019, he was detailed for duty at Karbala. When he approached near J Block, his motor cycle’s tyre got punctured and he fell down from his bike and received injuries. He was admitted to Max Hospital, Saket, where he died during treatment on 05.10.2020.

4. HC Nagendra Kumar Mishra (FRRO) Date of Martyrdom 11.01.2021. On10.01.2021, HC Nagendra was directed for law & order arrangement in New Delhi District in connection with Kissan Andolan. At around 5.30 PM, while he was going towards Police Colony Pitam Pura, an unknown vehicle hit him. He was hospitalized at Avantika Hospital and later shifted to Balaji Action Hospital, Paschim Vihar, where he expired during treatment on 11.01.2021.

5. Ct Munshee Lal Yadav (South-West Dist) Date of Martyrdom01.05.2021. Ct Munshee Lal Yadav was posted at P.S. Vasant Vihar. On 30.04.2021, he was deployed for night picket duty at Outer Ring Road. In the morning hours on 01.05.2021 at about 3.45 AM, a Honda CR-V vehicle hit him and he sustained head injuries. He was hospitalized at Trauma Centre, AIIMS, where doctor declared him brought dead.

6. Ct Mahender Singh (DAP) Date of Martyrdom 26.07.2021

He was posted in 4th Bn. and on 23.07.2021 was deputed to get updates of a pending case of PS Sadar, Jhajjar, Haryana. On 26.07.2021, while he was returning to office, his motorcycle met with an accident with a dumper in the area of PS Beri, District, Jhajjar, Haryana, in which he died on the spot.
