Inter state Gang of burglars from Jharkhand arrested, targetted South Delhi homes

While a detecting a case of house theft in New Friends colony of South Delhi, the Delhi Police busted a gang of burglars of Jharkhanad and Nepal that reportedly targetted the residential areas in South Delhi. With no CCTV footage or other technology, the police traced the accused through the call data records and location. 

On February 8, the police had received a call from New Friends Colony resident Shobhit Juneja that his house was broken into when he returned back to India from Dubai. Juneja reportedly lost cash of Rs five lakhs during the burglary and jewellery too. The New Friends colony police station had registered a case of burglary and began an investigation.  

The main conspirator in the case was identified as Puran Singh from Nepal and the main accused was identified as Abzul Sheikh from Jharkhand. 

According to the police, when the investigation began, the police had no help in form of CCTV footage as the cameras of the building were reportedly not working. After much inquiry and recording statements of the victim and neighbours, the police found out that the security guard of the building Dinesh alias Anmol Singh had gone on a leave two three days before that. when his mobile phone was traced his number was put on the switched off mode two days before the incident. A relative of Singh, Arjun Pariyar was working as security guard in the neighbourhing building which is under construction. 

The mobile call dat records of both the persons were sought and analyzed , it was unveiled that incident was committed in the intervening night and the Nepal residents are involved in the burglary. The police team minutely scrutinized the CCTV footages of the area but the accused persons were not captured in any CCTV. The team analyzed the CDRs of the connected mobile numbers. After analyzing CDRs, the team conducted raids at Zakir Nagar, Saheen Bagh, Old Rajinder Nagar, New Friends Colony, Taimoor Nagar and Dheerpur Village being their possible hideouts. Their connected people were apprehended and sustained interrogation was conducted. They revealed that all three Nepal residents had allegedly fled to Nepal. 

A further analysis of the CDRs of more connected numbers was done and police found that the location of one mobile phone of Jharkhand/Bihar was at the same spot in the night of incident. The CDR of that mobile number was analyzed minutely and found that the persons visited Delhi from Kolkata by air on January 29/ He was in continuous contact with absconding Nepal  residents. His location was also found on February 2 and February 5 in New Friends Colony area. It was high possibility that he must have come for recce in the area of NFC before the incident. The said mobile number was registered with the name of Abzul Sheikh R/o Jharkhand.  

The officials then anaylzed those numbers and apprehended some of his connected persons from Dhirpur Village Delhi. During interrogation, they revealed that Abzul Sheikh is a burglar and he will visit Delhi for executing another burglary in Laxmi Nagar area in connivance with Nepal residents. The police team laid a trap at New Delhi Railway Station but Abzul Sheikh escaped from there. The police team chased him and apprehended him near Jama Masjid Delhi. Initially the accused Abzul Sheikh tried to mislead the team but after sustained interrogation, he broke down and confessed his involvement in the burglary. He further disclosed that he in connivance with some Nepal residents executed this burglary in New Friends Colony in the night of February 6. 

He also  disclosed the name of his Nepal resident associates who were involved in the burglary. He further disclosed that Puran Singh is the master mind who obtained the information about the family moving out station. The team asked the accused Abzul Sheikh to contact Puran Singh over WhatsApp video call as Puran Singh used WhatsApp on Nepal’s mobile number and used to contact through WhatsApp & messenger only. The location of Puran Singh was in Banglore at that time. The team asked Abzul Sheikh to lure his associate Puran Singh to return Delhi in the name of good work of burglary in the area of Laxmi Nagar. Puran Singh returned Delhi by Air and he was apprehended by the police team at the instance of Padam Singh from Rajinder Nagar, Ghaziabad. Teams have been deployed to arrest the other co-accused persons, the officials added. 

Explaining the gang's modus operandi, the police said the accused Puran Singh is from Nepal and having good network with the Nepal residents who are working as security guard, servant, maid or driver in India used to approach them and lure them for monetary help for giving information about their owner, family members, house secrets or assets and their outstation movement. After that he used to call Abzul Sheikh for executing burglary in the night in the house. The security guard/servant will help him enter the building. After committing burglary, they use to left the spot and divide the stolen money & jewelry equally. 

In this case too, Puran Singh and other associates met the guard of the building. The guard passed the information that second floor owner is going Dubai with his family and his house will be empty. Accused Puran Singh contacted Abzul Sheikh and asked him to come to Delhi. Then as per planning, the guard left for Nepal and accused Puran Singh deputed his person as guard in the building on February 6. In the intervening night Puran Singh, Abzul Sheikh and their associates committed the burglary. Soon after the burglary, they all left the spot and went to Sahibabad to distribute the money equally. All Nepal residents went to Nepal and Abzul Sheikh went to Jharkhand and Kolkata. They all switched off their mobile phones and brought new mobile phone and new SIM. 

The accused Abzul Sheikh disclosed that he sold his share of jewelry to one person in Jharkhand. However, accused Puran Singh disclosed that his share is lying with his associate burglar.  

The police are further verifying this alleged gang's association with other burglaries and house breaks recorded in the area.
