MP Police lathi-charged, used water cannon on Youth Congress workers marching to CM’s house

New Delhi, August 12
The youth workers of Indian National Congress who were protesting against inflation and unemployment, fuel price hike and support of OBC reservation were detained by police in Bhopal alongwith the IYC president Srinivas.
The youth workers were reportedly marching towards Shymala Hills in Bhopal to gherao the Chief Minister’s residence.
While many workers suffered injuries, National Youth Congress president Srinivas BV, state president Vikrant Bhuria and MLA Jaivardhan Singh along with hundreds of party workers were detained.
The roadshow with over 2,000 workers started from Congress office after the address by the president of the Congress Committee, Kamal Nath, around 1 pm.
However, just a few meters ahead, they were stopped by the police who had barricaded the roads and deployed at least four water cannons amid heavy police bandobast.
When the workers reportedly were close to reaching the CM's house, the police used water cannons heavily and also resorted to lathi charge to stop them.
The youth workers had planned "Vidhansabha Gero" programme which was later to CM'S residence gherao programme.
The Bhopal police have booked five Congress leaders.
The police said the FIR has been registered against National Youth Congress president Srinivas B V, state Youth Congress president Vikrant Bhuriya, MLAs Jaivardhan Singh and Kunal Chaudhary and another person under sections 188 and 147 of the IPC after they tried to climb over the police barricades put up to stop protesters.
