MP Police suspended police driver for allegedly placing the national flag upside down on police vehicle

New Delhi, August 16

The Madhya Pradesh Police suspended a police driver and served showcause notice to two policemen for allegedly placing the tricolour upside down on the police vehicle.

During the independence day function held on August 15, the tricolour was placed upside down on a vehicle in which State Higher Education Minister Mohan Yadav inspected the parade at Rajgarh.

Rajgarh Police SP Pradeep Sharma stated that the driver had placed the national flag upside down on the inspection vehicle for which he was suspended with immediate effect.

The other two policemen who were served a showcause notice will submit their replies to the police headquarters after which the concerned authorities will take action, official said.

The Prevention of insult to National Honour Act 1971 states that whoever in any public place or in any other place within public view burns, mutilates, defaces, defiles, disfigures, destroys, tramples upon or otherwise shows disrespect to or brings into contempt (whether by words, either spoken or written, or by acts) the Indian National Flag or the Constitution of India or any part thereof, shall be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to three years, or with fine, or with both.
