The Mumbai police probing actor Saif Ali Khan attack case arrested the accused from Thane after he was traced hiding in the forest area.
The Mumbai police teams were tracking the acused wo was constantly changing clothes to evade police. He was caught in three CCTVs wearing different shirts before he boarded a train.
The accused is a Bangladeshi national Mohammed Shariful Islam, alias Vijay Das, who allegedly attacked Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan at his house on January 16 in a failed robbery attempt.
The police added that they have found as many as 19 fingerprints of thr accused at Khan's home. The ccused’s fingerprints were taken from the crime scene, the bathroom window from where he entered and exited, the duct shaft, and the ladder he used to enter the building from the duct, among other places.
The Mumbai police ran these fingerprint samples through the state and national databases, but they didn’t match anyone when they found out that the accused that the accused could be from another country.
The probe team is likely to take him to Saif Ali Khan’s house on the 11th floor of the Satguru Sharan building on St Terrasa Road, Bandra West. Islam, has also confessed to the crime.
The police informed that after attacking Khan, Islam escaped to Dadar via the Bandra station from where he went to Worli. The police traced his route with the help of CCTV cameras at the Bandra Railway Station, Dadar, and then Worli.
After he was seen eating parathas at a food stall, the police then traced the stall owner, who gave them the details of the UPI transaction Islam made to pay for the parathas and a water bottle. This number led police to the labour camp, near Ghodbunder, in Thane.
Meanwhile, another police team managed to track his contractor, Jitendra Pandey, who was captured on another CCTV at Andheri with Islam. Pandey dropped Islam somewhere on his bike.
Islam was eventually caught hiding in mangrove bushes in Thane, police added.
