New Delhi, May 26

The Nagpur woman Sunita Jamgade, who crossed over into Pakistan through the Line of Control (LoC)  from the Hunderman village in Kargil, was handed over to the Indian authorities by Pakistani officials on May 24.

Sunita Jamgade (43) was reported missing by her family on May 14.

The police stated she crossed the border over ten days ago, leaving her son behind and was subsequently apprehended by the Pakistani forces.

Pakistan captured Sunita after she crossed the border. The Pakistan Rangers have handed her over to the Border Security Force (BSF), and the BSF has handed over the lady to Amritsar Police.

Nagpur police had sent one police official and two women constables to Amritsar to bring Sunita back, Nagpur police told media.

The officials also added that police will interrogate her once she is in Nagpur custody, to verify whether she was involved in spying or any other unlawful activity.

Her family told police that she had been showing signs of emotional distress and confusion weeks before she suddenly disappeared. Her family had also shared that she was mentally ill and was undergoing treatment at a local hospital.

The police added that Sunita was formerly working as nurse in a Nagpur hospital and also sold door-to-door garments.

Jamgade’s 12-year-old son, who was taken into the care of the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) following her disappearance, will also be brought back to Nagpur soon.
