NIA chargesheets five ULFA-I members in Guwahati grenade blast case

The NIA filed a supplementary chargesheet before the NIA special court in Assam Guwahati against five who were arrested in grenade blast case of Assam.

The accused identified as Pappu Koch Bokoliyal alias Bijoy Asom, Amrit Ballav Goswami, Paresh Baruah alias Paresh Asom, Arunodoy Dahotiya alias Bijit Gogoi and Munna Baruah alias Munna Asom have been chargesheeted under various sections of IPC and UA(P) Act for their role in the conspiracy. 

The case relates to incident of two ULFA (I) cadres lobbing a grenade at a police party near Central Mall, RGB Road, Guwahati which led to injuries to twelve persons. Later, accused Paresh Baruah, the self-styled Commander-in-Chief of ULFA(I) took responsibility for the terrorist attack. The NIA had re registered the case as in June 2019 and taken over the investigation. The NIA had filed a chargesheet against eight accused.

During NIA's investigation, the additional evidence was gathered against the accused and supplementary chargesheet has been filed under sections 18B of UA (P) Act for their role in recruitment of ULFA (I) cadres. The accused have been charged for their roles in the conspiracy of the grenade attack and for waging war against the Union of India on the strength of additional evidence surfaced during investigation.

The NIA is further investigating the case.
