New Delhi, January 23
The Noida Police arrested owner of Tricity Today news portal, along with two others for allegedly being a part of Ravi Kana’s gang and extorting money.
The three accused have been identified as Pankaj Parasar, the owner of the portal, Dev Sharma and Awadhesh Sisodia.
The Greater Noida police stated that the accused extorted money by intimidating people by running fake news against them The call records of the arrested men prove that they are involved with the Ravi Kana gang.
The police said they have recovered Rs 6.3 lakh and two luxury vehicles from the arrested men.
Ravi Kana was arrested by the Noida Police last April in a gangrape case and for his alleged involvement in illegal activities in Noida, Greater Noida and Ghaziabad.
The fraud came to light when on November 8, the three men called one Manoj Kumar to Pari Chowk in Greater Noida, seeking his statement to the media portal in connection to a news report. They then introduced themselves as Ravi Kana’s men and demanded money by threatening Kumar of publishing fake news against him. Kumar was also threatened that he would be killed if he did not give the money.
Kumar filed a complaint with the police and an FIR was lodged under Section 308(5) (extortion by putting someone in fear of death or hurt).
The police added that around 15 to 20 suspicious bank accounts have been traced to the accused and their associates, showing illegal money transaction by the Ravi Kana gang.
