Policemen thrashed Army jawaan with boots in Jharkhand for not wearing a mask, suspended

New Delhi, September 2

An Army jawan was beaten up in Jharkhand’s Chatra district for not wearing a mask. A video of the purpoted incident surfaced online which invited anger if many netizens demanding action on the policemen.

In the video, a few policemen were seen stopping the Army jawaan and after a few seconds of the banter allegedly started thrashing him up. Ironically, many of them were not wearing masks.

The Army personnel was identified as Pawan Kumar Yadav.

The incident occurred in the Mayurhand area where the jawan came on a motorbike. He was stopped during a mask checking campaign. As he was not wearing the mask, he was questioned but it soon turned into a heated argument. One of the police staff also snatched the bike’s key before beating up the jawan with boots.

The incident angered a few locals who protested on the site and demanded action. The policemen from Mayurhand police station rushed to the spot and later registered a case.

Superintendent of the Police Chatra Rakesh Ranjan suspended three police personnel and two other officers present at the spot.

SP Rajan has also ordered DSP (Headquarters) for an inquiry into the incident asking the inquiry officer to submit the report at the earliest.
